Symbolism

Symbolism - a tool in which authors use images or objects to represent an idea or quality. Find THREE symbols in the literature and explain WHAT they are and WHAT they symbolize.

Vocabulary

Create a list of 10 vocabulary words from the literature. Define each word, and write a sentence for each, conveying you correctly understand the word.

Say What?!

Create a set of notecards containing SEVEN (7) characters from the story. On the FRONT of each notecard write the character’s name at the top and a significant quote by him/her below. On the BACK of the notecard, explain why that quote is significant. See Handout.

Summary (8 sentences)

Create a summary of the literature (must be at least 8 sentences).

Trailer

Create a movie trailer for the story.

Mindmap (10 connections)

Create a web/mind map depicting how characters and/or ideas are linked.

Pictionary

Draw the main image that emerges from a poem. Thoroughly explain the significance of that image.

Journal (3 entries)

Choose a character and write three journal entries as if you were him/her. Make sure to cover different times in the story.

2D or 3D Scene with explanation

Create a 2D or 3D depiction of one of the scenes. Write a paragraph explaining the significance of that scene and the elements you included.

DIY Poem

Write a poem in response to the reading.

Hot Seat (10 Q & A)

Work with a partner and imagine you are each a different character. Come up with a list of questions for your partner’s character and each take a turn in the “hot seat” to answer the questions as if you were that character.

Ripple Effect (5 ripples)

Select one key event and demonstrate how it affects the actions and characters in the story

Facebook Page

Create a Facebook page for a character - include friends, posts, groups, events, etc. Must be in color.

Playlist (5 songs)

Create a playlist including five songs for one of the characters. Write a brief explanation as to why you selected each song.
